Located at the two entrances of the school are eleven glass columns on stainless steel bases. Within each glass column are eight planes of glass with laminated, beveled, and dichroic glass on each plane. The columns are positioned to define the entry as well as create an edge for the pedestrian traffic. In addition, they transform the daylight into spectral colors that is then cast throughout the space.

Because this is a school of engineering, the columns were intended to reference a fundamental, structural system. The overlapping pattern represents the concept that chaos is created when ordered systems are superimposed upon one another.
